Where is this "hand pump" everyone talks about with a fuel filter change. There is no plunger or anything like that in my 98 12v. This is getting VERY frustrating.

99globalwarmer, thanks! I found it about 30 seconds after reading your post.

Infidel, With that diagram, I would have found it 10 seconds after.

I really appreciate y'all stepping up.

So, now you've also found where your filter goes, and the lever for draining the water out of your filter canister!

I have a '98 also, and it is kind of hidden untill you know where to look.

How often should the water be drained and how much should be drained out? I did this once at a fuel stop with the engine shut off and the truck wouldn't re-start. Used the primer a bunch of times and got it going but it made me think I didn't do it correctly.

Whats the best procedure to keep this from happening and still keep water drained off?

It all depends on your fuel quality. Most busy stations are pretty good. I drained mine a couple times when they were new but haven't touched the drains on either of them now for over 200k. Figure I'll wait for the WIF light to come on before I do it again.

It drains fast without problems if you do it with the engine running.
