I would start with a fuel filter, stainer service, and rubber fuel lines from the back of the motor to the frame.

If that doesn't take care of it then check fuel preasure, if low then change overflow valve, if still low then change lift pump. With that stuff you should have good fuel preasure....

The injection pumps rarely go bad on these trucks. Let us know what you come up with, we'll get it figured out.

Oh one more thing check the throttle cable and all associated linkage, they do have problems from time to time.

I agree with the fuel filter there could be all kinds of junk in the fuel if it has sat that long. Does the truck just die or sputter when you try to give it more fuel???

Also, if it has sat for 2 years, I would drain or siphon as much of that fuel out as you can. When Diesel sits for long periods of time it grows algae. This is probably why it wont rev past idle. The algae has probably plugged up the filter. It will keep happening until the fuel is out of the tank.

After you drain it or siphon it, there are products out there for algae problems. I would but some and use it to really clean out the tank.
All the additive makers have somekind of algaecide.

we have an owners manual that came with the truck. It identifies but one filter. I can hardly believe that is the onlything in the system[ this is due to my experience with my "cat" ]. Is this correct? Is there another place that carries the filter besides "NAPA" ,the price left me breathless. 30CC

There is a pre-filter/fuel heater just before the fuel filter.

Try http://www.genosgarage.com they sell fleetguard as cheap as anyone, but you have to wait for it to arrive...... Pre-filter kit is 8 bucks and change, don't know for sure what the 96 FF costs.

I use big truck shops, they get me luberfiner fuel filters fro around $13 and oil filters for around $5. I have heard they are backed by the company and all the diesel people I know around here use them as well. I agree with the algae, get something that will kill that or empty the tank completely and clean it, it will probably have some rust issues...

I'm almost positive its not your lift pump because when my went out it would lose prime every time I shut it off. If it starts then it is probably something else.

Have fun with it.
