My stock hx35 was making a weird noise. So I sent it off to turbo lab America to a rebuild and up sizing. Two months later, I get it back and it's still making the same noise! They're thinking it's just a boost leak. I can live with that if it's true. But it sure sounds bad to me. Almost like metal rubbing on something. I'd appreciate it if more experienced ears could take a listen.

Oh and one more puzzling thing. My tachometer is read 400-500 rpm less. It really feels and sound the same as when I was going 1000 rpm but the gauge says 500. Is that normal after a turbo upgrade? Thanks much!

 

Sounds like leak to me. Have you pressure tested the intake system? If not, do so. Remember a little air goes a long way. If you search, I know this site has a few different home made rigs to do it. Also has pressure limitations.

 

Thanks for your help. One of my clamps had wiggled off causing a boost leak. You were right.

Still don't know why my tach is off and the egts are a little high driving uphill. But otherwise things are much better.
