truck vibrating then dies
truck vibrating then dies
my friend has a 95 ctd auto, the other day we were on the freeway for about 10 minutes and the whole truck started to shake when ever light pressure was put on the accelerator pedal and would only clear up unless at wot, and a slight clicking noise was heard from drivers side of the engine bay. we pulled over and it wouldnt even idle in park. after starting the truck and it dying a few times probably the third or fourth time we statred it the truck ran completly normal. its happened more than once and getting worse. any answers? im lost
Mine did this but took driving for much longer than 10 minutes to show up.
Replacing the overflow valve solved it.
My theory is the spring in the OF valve had gotten weak and hotter fuel caused it to get even weaker.
Replacing the OF valve is a five minute one wrench job if you don't drop the sealing washers, stuff a rag under the valve to catch a falling washer. Remove the old valve and put new one in it's place. Occasionally the notch in the manifold you see to the left of the OF valve in the picture needs to be filed or ground a little to allow the old valve to be removed. Don't bend the line to remove the valve, it will make it very difficult to line up again. New style OF valves don't always have the retainer on top that says not to remove, don't worry it's just a design change.
The object in the lower left corner is the oil fill cap.
You won't find a better price on an overflow valve than here
