Transmission issues

I just bought the truck and when I drove it everything shifted good. I got it home and let it sit over night, I got in it to back out and when I put it in reverse it didn't do anything and finally it shifted hard into reverse. It does this when it has been sitting overnight. It sometimes doesn't like to shift into 3rd gear when you first start out driving. It will finally shift hard into at like 2300 rpms and then it doesn't skip a beat. Tranny doesn't slip at all and I know I'm pushing the stock tranny with what I have done. Any ideas on what this could be?

Fluid draining out of the converter while sitting overnight. Let it idle in Neutral for 30 seconds or so before shifting into gear ought to do it. These transmissions don't pump fluid when they are in park unless the valve body has been modified.

Or change the one way valve in the cooler line that prevents the converter drain back. Over night this should not happen.

Mine did the same thing around 150K.. It turned out to be a clutch pack. When I lowered the tranny pan to change the fluid, I found a piece of a clutch ring.......

Well thats not good if its a clutch pack. I know about the converter not coupling fluid in park so I have been trying letting it idle in nuetral and that hasn't fixed the problem. I'm gonna get the tranny rebuilt and a converter and valve body added soon. I just don't have the funds for it now.

mine will do that if i dont let it warm up properly so i have learned to treat my engine right and let er warm up a bit before i take. i also noticed it is not as bad when i change the filter and do a flush, but when it starts to get a little dirty it gets worse so that is my sign to service it.
