Transfer Case Swap

The transfer case went out in my truck, but I found one close out of a 2001 cummins with the NV5600. Question is, are the transfer cases behind the NV4500 and the NV5600 interchangable? Thanks

Jim

Pretty sure all the 5600's had the NV271 instead of the 241.

Some swapping around and cutting.

He says its a 241 DLD out of an 2001 6-speed, so I don't know what the deal is.

The 2nd gens had 241's. I know getblown5.9 did a 271 swap into his '02 6-speed a while back. There should be posts of it on here.

If that is the case, then the only holdup should be the input splines, not sure about any differences there.

Good luck with the swap. I have had mine apart and for $150 I put in a set of bearings for a refresh. The chain and sprockets would have added about another $500, but mine were good enough. Easy to repair.

Just re-read that , there is a difference between the DLD and the DHD, make sure both are DLD or DHD, then it should be a bolt in.

Some silliness with the transfer case lever mounting, but I "think" that is in the trans, not the TC.
