Ok, whats the deal? A built automatic will blow a 5 speed off the road And why is a 47re worse than a 47rh? I just hauled a 10k lb tractor with mine the other day and it did great. I think most people bashing auto;s have never ridden in a built one

He might be eyeing the ATS 47re in the classifieds?

whats so much worse about a 47re? I'll agree that a stock dodge trans in any 2nd gen truck isnt much, but with a good valve body and torque converter theyre really good transmissions.

they are great transmissions when they are built, but the price to build a great one is ridiculous.

It can, but you will need a PCM from a 96-2000 truck with the 47RE so that it will shift... The electronics will be what makes it difficult.

Oh wait brain blast...... If you feel comfortable with taking the tail end of the two transmissions apart you could swap in your output shaft with the mechanical governor and then drop the pan and swap VB's If your VB is stock then just get a Trans-Go to throw in it and you'll be golden.

I think it's preference. I can't stand automatics no matter how well there built, it's just more fun to shift through the gears, and be able to pick when u want to shift.

I agree its purely prefrence. Id love for mine to be a 5 speed sometimes, but then when im talkin on the phone and drivin I like the automatic. I also like the automatic when I pull up beside someone at a light Build a little boost and you are gone. But yeah, its definately personal preference. I really like my buddies 06 6 speed cummins with the juice. That truck is sweet

Not everyone buys these trucks to rice, errrr, I mean race them. Manual transmissions are in general more durable and offer a more finite degree of control without having to ride the brakes. Things that might be appreciated in a truck that often sees work and/or offroad.

I use my truck. Check my gallery. i agree a 5 speed will have a little more control, but I also like to drag race, and pull with mine, and the automatic is simply more versatile. I can downgear when I want, and lock the converter in any gear with my valve body anyway, so I have a lot of control over what it is doing. Honestly, my family, and close friends have all had more trouble from their 5 speeds than the automatics I have been around. Just my experience.

Your experience certainly does not match that of every CTD forum in existence.
