Most lubes don't need additives, they have ones already that were engineered by the manufacturer to work with their fluids.

I think I put two bottles in with when I increased my capacity with a mag hytec double deep pan. Who knows if it really does any good, but I have used lucas products for quite a while. I used the engine oil stabilizer religously on my gasser before I got the truck below. I still haven't talked myself into putting it in my diesel yet, but I do use the injector cleaner religiously on all my vehicles. I think it really does help help improve mileage.

Don't ever overfill a tranny though with lucas or regular fluid. Its a good way to start a tranny leak.

Read this and see if you think Lucas is a good idea http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm

I changed oil for a guy who was using Lucas in his engine, it came out cream colored like it had water in it.
As the above article explains the coloring is caused by additives in most oils that are incompatible with aftermarket additives.
Lucas will never go in anything I own.

i always check mine cold. it will expand when hot. if full cold it will definitely have enough in it. this old man always figured the book is just a starting point and worked accordingly

check your fluid in the tranny HOT like the owner manual says. too much fluid is a bad thing no matter what old time mechanics experienced on older vehicles. ( with all due respect Jughead) a lot has changed in vehicles in 20 years, never mind longer. Lots of things my old man used to do to the 727's back in the 60's and 70's when he was a mechanic and racer don't necessarily apply now do the changes in design.
Some of the older trannys had hot and cold marks like the PS fluid stick, but almost every manufacturer wants you to check it hot, some in park others in D, and others in N- depends on the design of the trans.

I respectfully agree with justme, although I am sure that jughead has some serious wisdom accumulated over the years. Newer engines and transmissions are not NEARY as tolerate of overfilling, or changes in composition/viscosity. Do what the owners manual says.
I had a 95 Jeep Wrangler, with the 32RH auto, and it slipped a little in first. The Lucas Transfix really helped- but, otherwise, I would not put additives in a transmission if it isn't on its last leg. Simply, the best preventitive is proper maintenance.

to each his own. i built most of the autos out there up until 2003. except for the fluid for the lock-up torgue converter the old stuff still applies. there are some little things one has to do to the chry overdrive trans as for as lube is concerned otherwise they work on the same principles as the 727. just for the book always being god. the first 440t4 i ever built was filled 4 quarts over full told the gentleman to keep it there it was my trans. until it ran out of warranty. i even used type F fluid in it. last time i saw the car that trans had 230k on it. he told me he had to have a cooler line repaired during that time was all it ever needed. i submit that nothing in the automotive field is carved in stone.
