Tranny Problems Again

My tranny will not go in reverse. Only gear that work are 1st and 2nd. Will not shift into 3rd or 4th. This tranny was rebuild 2 1/2 years ago. I put in a full DTT trans, thinking it will be bullet proof and getting something good for the money, but guess not. Any one know if this would be easy fix or do I need another tranny? The truck is going in tomorrow. I tell you, after spending that kind of money on a tranny, I expected it to last longer than that. Very disappointed in DTT tranny. My stock tranny lasted longer than this and was way cheaper. I don't abuse it either. Will let you know the verdict. 1994 3500 cummins 4x4 auto.

First thing to do is call DTT and see what they have to say about it. Maybe they will stand behind it and help you out.

1 year part and labor, 2 year parts only. They said need new tranny. I went and saw all the metal filings and contamination. I am having another company do the work this time, they seem to really know what they are doing and are alot more experienced. I don't trust another DTT tranny and very dissappointed in there tranny reliablity and longtivity.

Thats a bunch of bull crap! I thought DTT had a pretty good reputation. I know many are happy with there stuff, but i believe i would have to have a talk with them about this.

Sounds like something that happened to me after I had a local shop rebuild my trans, 3 weeks is all I got out of it. Slipped 3rd and O/D one day, never did it again, the next week no reverse, my dad smoked the reverse band right out of it. The told me after the rebuilt the trans again that the valve body had a crack in it and it was losing pressure to the low/reverse servo.

Well thats what I thought and had them put one in. But like I said did not hold up. Only lasted 2 1/2 years. Maybe the guy that build mine just did not know what he was doing or build it wrong. For one I am done with DTT tranny.

That ain't right, I would think they would tear it down for an inspection, and just charge you what it costs to repair or something like that. Even if you paid labor to R&R and overhaul kit, it would still be a lot cheaper than a full rebuilt?

Are you dealing with an authorized DTT dealer? I thought they covered their transmissions better than that. I beat the Edit out of mine and have even broken hardened input shafts etc. and only had to pay the wholesale price for the parts. I guess my dealer is better at dealing with the manufactrurer, or maybe a better warranty. I don't have a DTT trans.

That is what I was quoted also. I like a DTT transmission but I think that I would rather have one made by Bill. I dont use my truck but 5 or 10 k miles a year so the 100 warrenty is better for me. If a rv is driven 100k miles in two years he had better have some deep pocket to pay for all of that fuel. I dont wont to get in the middle of this, I have no doubt that Bill could make the transmission work. Jim

I do not personally own any DTT products (not that I wouldn’t). I do know that they make quality components. Regardless of what product you do own it is pertinent and only fair to the vendor that they be involved or at least know about the problems with their product. With all of the choices in vendors that we have now competition is very stiff, so a vendor has to stand behind their product. But in order to do so they have to be given a chance.
