Tranny leaking a bit
Tranny leaking a bit
I have a 94 ctd with a DTT auto tranny and I noticed the other day there was a bit of red fluid in the snow where it was parked. Crawled under to have a look and pretty sure its coming from around where the gear selector shaft goes into the case. Anybody know if there is a seal, an o ring or whats in there. How hard is it to fix or would it be better to take it to a tranny shop and let them do it. They have a hoist and heat, I dont....

Actually there are two seals associated with gear selector shaft. one fits into the case and shift lever is sealed on outside. To replace. Take levers off and us a bent screw driver blaed to pry out seal. Install with a socket and c-clamp. Don't let shaft fall down.
The other is smaller and fits below the throttle shaft. Take E clip off smaller shaft. Remove washer and pry out seal. Don't let shaft fall down.
The NS switch just rearward also leaks occasionally. The KD band adjustment locknut needs a few drops of RTV to seal against.
