Towing Heavy

Towing Heavy
I have an enclosed 38 foot GN trailer that weighs in around 17k loaded. Most of my mods are in my sig. I don't know if I would call it a problem, but when pulling a long grade, I really have to keep an eye on the pyro gauge to keep it around 1200*. Last trip, I took my eye off the gauge for just a second, and the pyro was sitting on 1450. I still have like half a pedal of throttle left but can't use it because of the egt's. Also, lately in the summer months here in CA, the coolant temp gets up there a little, around 215-220. Boost peaks around 29 psi.
So the question is, what can I do to keep up the momentum on big hills (like Cajon Pass) without temps getting out of hand? And more power never hurts either.

You've got the fuel, but not the air. You're at the limits of your stock turbo. Unless you want to do water/meth or something like that to cool it down a bit. Maybe good injectors? They make more power and better mileage because they atomize and pattern better than stock ones. Should stand to reason that you'd use less fuel for the same amount of power. Of course, then you'd just want to go even faster up the hills!
Mine's the same way. I can still haul tail up a grade, but I have to watch my EGT.

Which gear are you climbing the pass in? I tow up that hill regularly. Drop it into 4th, crank it up to 2000 rpm and climb at a steady 50mph. It only takes about a minute longer than trying to pull it at 55 and the egt stays at 900 to 1000. You aren't trying to do it faster are you?

I can pull the majority of the hill in 4th,but towards the top, i have to go to 3rd wound out around 2400 rpm and 35-38 mph. I have the power to pull 4th all the way but the egt's won't let me. In the wintertime I can do it though. I usually end up in the slow truck lane and just when I need to jump out to pass, I get hosed by a barely faster trucker, lose all my momentum, and end up just staying there going slooooww.

The cajon pass is really steep i would say slow it down and stay in the far right lane with the trucks or bypass it and take the 138 into felan and then back to the 15

edit: I have some receipts from the previous owner of my truck that says the injectors were replaced. The part number on the invoice is RB-0432133864. Anybody have any idea what these are?
What is a 62/14? Is this a turbo housing or twins??

You say Banks Git Kit in your sig but I thought the Git was only for 24 valves.
Nevertheless most Banks kits include a larger turbo housing.
Personally the next step I'd take is water/meth, big bang for the buck.
I've installed several of the Snow meth kits, owners lover them me included.

It has tons of power with and without the big trailer...just gets too hot on the climbs.

Sounds like you need a new turbo. 62/14 is a single turbo, that is just the size of it. You could check out HTT, Industrial Injection, Garrett, or one of the many other turbo companies.
Good Luck

Dan, you drive like a girl. Bury that needle in the red and worry about a motor later
I'll second the bigger injectors and the 62/14 turbo. I have the 62/12 lined up for mine, but only because its an auto with 4.10's and I only gross 17-18k with the camper and the Jeep.
Going to Moab???
