Torque Converter Lockup Switch for (1995) Ram

I would love to install a tc switch on my 1995 Ram. I hope someone can tell me what wires that I will need to find and if any wires need to be jumped. I tow a 5th wheel trailer and would love to have the trans locked manually. Thanks so much for all the help with my truck. Next week I will have the steering box brace and will be getting air ride for the back in the am. Thanks a bunch Don T

Will I be able to lock and stay in 2nd gear on steep hills? I hope this will help with high temps on the hill to the campground we use.there is a hard turn at the bottom of a long hill that I must almost stop to make and 2nd gear is all that I can get the truck to shift into. Thanks Don T

You know I'm not sure.
Mine will but I have a built up tranny, didn't have the switch when it was stock.
I would give it a try even if the switch is temporary, it's cheap and easy.
One thing you don't want to do is shift with it locked, even though it can be done it will be hard on the tranny.

Can't do locked in 2nd without doing something to the valve body... I would like to know what that something is so I can do it on my truck, locked 2nd would be real nice.

Give Dave Goerend a call, 563-778-2719.
I'm sure he'll tell you what it takes for 2nd lockup even if you don't buy it from him.
I use 2nd locked all the time on long, steep, winding Forest Service roads.
If you have 4wd you can lockup in 3rd and 4th, pretty close to 2nd high.

I read it will help improve 0-60 times. I have a lag in shift between 2nd and third. I have to almost tach out and hit 55 before it will hit 3rd. But when it does I really feel power. Then lockup. I read above that it is hard on the tranny to shift in lockup. So what good is this to install if you cant shift until unlocked? Learning.

I will install the wire for locking the tc. my gear selector on the 95 ram has 1,2,D
so I think I will be able to lock second and it will stay in second. The benefit will be lower trans temps on the hills to the campground and some braking coming down the hill. I have bought a switch and will have it installed along with air ride and the brace for the steering box. Thanks Guys for all your help. Later Don T

Keeps tranny temps cooler when locked in lower gears or makes an exhaust brake work.

Locked shifts will certainly give you faster times but when you play you pay, something will break.

Dave told me Never shift locked as it can break the input shaft on the trans, If you want to shift with it locked, you better have a billet input shaft at the minimum.

ok, so, then, I am trying to understand why I would need to do it then. I tow regularly, never have a problem braking. Any ideas about the lag from second to third in WOT? If I could get it to shift faster I wouldnt have to catch those mustangs. I would just beat them off the line.

You can shift with it locked i have been doing it for years with my 94 and no problems yet !!

Just use your head with the skinny pedal = step into it until it is time for the upshift and then let up on the pedal so it can upshift under light/no load and then ease back into it again.

Works great for me pulling my 5th wheel.

so really no street racing use. Like I said, I am tired of playing catch. I want to come off the line faster. I have all the right parts. Seems like my shift points need to be adjusted then. I only have trouble under WOT.

I just did my TC lockup switch last night on my 94. Took about an hour total with finding a switch and pulling the dash apart, I mounted it in the blank switch beside the O/D switch. I absolutely love it, should have done it a long time ago.
