Tired of dealing with my 24 valve!

I'm thinking about dumping my POS 24 valver and looking at the 12. It's either that or I forget Dodge and defect over to Ford.

Tell me, honestly, what issues do the 12 valvers have. I know making power is a bit easier too. What kind of power can be made without too much out of pocket?

I think this is the first time I've cruised the 12 valve forum and it's refreshing to not see failing lift pump and injection pump threads!

12V issues

KDP, front end alignment is another one, track bar and steering, is about all that i can think of, you have come to the right place if you are tired of the VP44, its what keeps me from gettin a 24V in all honesty.. anyways, just root around here long enough and ull be undervalved soon enough ;-) not that thats a bad thing.. cause it aint..

ok i have a thread out right now about oil in my coolant and i am trying to get to the bottom of it. took it to cummins and they are going to find out where its coming from. if its a cracked motor , my question is, how hard would it be to put a 12v in my 99 24v truck. would i just be better off buying a new truck or is it reletively easy to swap motors.

I would say that it is basically a drop in. The biggest problem would be getting all the electronics to work back. You could also do the PPump conversion to the the 24V. That would give you the best of both worlds. Good solid easy cheap power with the better flowing head. The P Pump conversion threads talked about making all the electronics work correctly also.
Our biggest power problem is the lack of after market injectors! You 24v guys hit the mother load as far as that goes. If I ever get a 24V it will be P Pumped in a heart beat.

yeah i am going to have to do some research on that. i would love that p pump on my truck. the only thing is i didnt no they use the 12v head to. i thought they just converted the p pump to work with the 24v head. the 24v definetly has the injector section on lock down but the 12vs definetly have the horse power n check.

They dont use the 12v head. They use the stock 24V head that flows better and runs cooler. The conversion also runs the 24V injectors with custom lines that connect to the P Pump. There is some debate over pop off preasures with the 24V injectors but it looks like most people just run them with the 24V pop off preasure rather than lowering them to the 12V preasure. The 12V makes more torque down low but the 24V makes the horses.
You will also have to address the fuel system. A cam swap will be needed to feed the mechanical fuel pump but it looks like some people are running a FASS set up instead. Great chance to upgrade but cams are around $750 bucks. Ouch!! Dont forget you will also need the pump gear for the P Pump and a timing case for the 12V. A little scrounging at the bone yards will save ya some serious cash.

I did what your considering about 6 months ago and can tell you the peace of mind not worrying about the VP calfing on me is Priceless (like a Master Card ad ) for me I went from 98.5 to 98 so the trucks were the same.

I usually agree with Rick, but I digress here... Properly valved. When my 99 was stolen, I said instanly to my wife the new one will be a unstock 12v. I have never looked back or questioned my decision. At all.
