tire load ranges

I am looking mostly at getting some 265x70x17's .

the tirerack.com website is stearing me to the E Rated tries, and said they have no D rated tires in that size, only a couple of C Rated, and then ones without a letter rating.

So given the choice of E Rated (more expensive) or C Rated/not rated, would you go with the E rated tires?

The E Rated tires have a load rating of 3190lbs and max pressure of 80lbs. Some of the unrated tires have a load rating of 2679 lbs and a max pressure of 44lbs. And there is one C rated tire rated at 2500lbs and 50psi.
Are the unrated and c rated tires too light duty for this truck?

Are you never going to carry a load? If so, you might get away with C rated tires. Heck, you'll max out C rated tires on the front axle having that Cummins under the hood. If you are going to put some weight on it/tow with it, you need the heavier rated tires. At least D, but preferably E.

Thanks

Thanks for the input.

I ordered some E rated Pirelli Higway tread tires in 265/70/17 and some 17x8 aluminum rims.

Im not planning on carrying loads on a regular basis, but it would be nice to be able to pick up my own wood pellets and coal this winter. The previous owner said I could put 1 ton in the bed easily, maybe even 2 tons.

Got my tires

I got my E rated 265/70/17 tires and wheels delivered and installed this weekend. It is a big difference from the 33x12.5 mud tires I had on there. The tire noise is gone, and it is more "civilized looking" now.
