Tell me what you think about this 96 Lotsa pics

Well I went by and checked out the 96 3500 dually 2x4 w 56K on it. He wants 8900 for it. Tell me what you think. Is it a good deal I figured I'd use the rust issues to negotiate the price down.
I took a bunch of pics, the entire group is @ http://picasaweb.google.com/razorrodent/Dodge
Heres teh hood tag.

The body is pretty much rust free but the frame and control arms have some rust issues.

I'm also concerned about that it had a dry K&N filter it was cruddy but not as bad as I've seen on my own truck.
Theres definatly evidence of dust suck through. I know this is not good.
The compressor blades did have some wear on them, the edges were a little rough but didnt feel badly chipped. I'll probably be swaping it out for a HX35 later on.

Heres the oil on the dip stick. It did have a fram on it ..... wish it had something better on it.

Get the price down a thousand or two if you can and get a few gallons of POR15, best under carriage coating you can buy. I'd buy it.

Wow, I've never seen so much rust. Looks like a clean truck. With only 56k miles, I think it's a good deal. Not sure how the market is nowadays though.

I'd get the vin number and do some research. Have a dealer check the vin history and a carfax report. Truck looks like it has more than 56K miles on it.

That's a lot of rust for the mileage. My 96 former farm truck with 206k looks better underneath than that. My body is rusty though. The rest of the truck looks clean.

You have most of the VIN in your first picture.

Remeber that in these trucks, people used to take the fuse out and or disconect the sensor so the milage wouldnt pile

Looks from the Carfax that this truck has done a lot of sitting - and not a lot of driving. Perhaps that's why the undercarriage is so rusty. I'd have a body shop give this one a thorough look-over (or under).

Well as much as I hated to I had to pass it up, I'd offered him 8k for it and while he went in to talk with his wife my Dad and i looked it over some more and found more rust ... MUCH worse rust. well beyond surface on the tops of the bed frame rails as well the axle tubes. It was flaking of by hand. a good 1/16th or more had blistered off and pitted on botht he tubes and rails. The bodies in ok shape though the tail gate needed work and there was a 6" sextion of thru rust at the bedside/fender seam. I want a truck to last a good 10 years which the engien and drive trail should but the frame.. even with a bed off wire/rust netralizer/ POR15 job still not going to be as strong as it should, same with the axle tubes. I'm thinking about calling him up a in a couple days and tell him if he doesn tsell it I'd give him 3-4 for it and then drive it till it breaks or till i can find a non rusted truck w a blow motor for cheap. I guess I could pull the bed, grind to whatever metals left anf plate the tops with 3/16s which i have plenty of as a temp fix.
