swaping out the dana 70

I have a 1997 12v with almost 300K on it. The limited slip carrier is wiped out, everytime i engage/disengage the the trans i get a really bad clunk out of the rearend, also when driving and letting off the throttle quickly it clunks really bad. I took the cover off, and it looks to me like the play is coming from the pin through the carrier. So looking ta the price of carriers, like $700 for a replacement, plus install kit, and time. So im thinking of picking up a 14 bolt or dana 60 complete assembly. Can be had for about $200 for a real nice complete one. One thing, my dana 70 has abs sensor on it. what happends if i swap in an older axle without this and leave it unpluged? Any help would be great. Thanks, Kodi

You might want to make sure the spring perches are the same width if you swap in a 14 bolt or a 60. I think I would shy away from a 60, as I don't know if it would hold up to the torque in the long run. You might want to make sure that it is not your rear u joint causing the clunk, or the ring and pinion. There are alos always limited slips to be had on ebay for less than $150 or so, that it another option.

As to your original question, if you unplug the ABS wire I think you will just lose your ABS function and set a light on the dash. Your speedo sensor is in the transfer case so you will be fine in that department.

i will modify the 14 bolt or 60 and put the perches where they need to be, along with the rest of the stock brackets i will cut off the old axle andre-install on the new one, my only delima is the abs sensor, so i guess i will unplug it and run it nowand see what happends. I just didnt wasnt it to locl up or somthing stupid. Thanks, Kodi
