still sputtering

ok im getting aggravated now, i got my truck back from the timing guy and he said it still sputters i drove it today and i can fill more power with the advanced timing (17) and alot more throttle response but im still sputtering in the 3k - 3200 mark and it wont go past there in park with the 4k kit installed, ive heard it could be fuel pressure and the mechanic thinks its injectors i was looking at new injectors but ive heard id have to have the bigger delivery valves, ive tried slidding the plate back more (it was 1/8 away from full forward) its now about 3/16, still sputters its aggravating the hell out of me, it doesnt white smoke or blue smoke anymore, just pops and sputters (sounds like i have a stutter box in it for drag racing or something) please help

a few valve springs aren't weak are they? Maybe a little valve float out of the stock springs @ 3K+?

I just recently started getting a bit of this but its different, in park I can go past 3K no problem, but when I am in gear and have it to the boards it revs up and pops a bit. I am going to try tightening in the retaining nuts on the springs a click or two and see if that helps.

Are you sure whoever timed it knows what they are doing? If the timing is retarded it will do this. Do you get smoke when sputtering? Did you have this sputtering before the timing change? Did you have this sputtering before any mods? Hate to see you mess with injector$$, when it can be something simple.

What about fuel lines, filter, overflow valve, prescreen filter, turbo boots, etc. Kevin

My feeling exactly, I think your timing is far more retarded than 17.
What method did the mechanic use?

i dont know what method he used, but he told me he set it at 15 and then kept adjusting and he said he had it all the way up to 25 and it still sputters, the guy is a real good mechanic and i dont think he would try to cheat me like this but exactly whats the steps to clean the prefilter screen and all, i start diesel college next week and ill have the tools there to time it with to make sure its around 17-17.5 before i go into spending lots of money, the truck doesnt smoke near as much as it used to with the timing advanced, it used to smoke heavily at low rpms if i mashed it and a light stream all the way up to the point it sputtered, now if i mash it, it smokes a little but not enough to make me happy and it doesnt smoke at all in high rpms. It has sputtered a little since i put the cam plate in it (about 3-4 years ago) and when i put the gov spring kit in it sputtered real bed at 2500 - 3k, it doesnt sputter as bad now at 2500 but at 3k it sputters and carrys on, it doesnt smoke during the sputter, it just sputters

Pre filter http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/pre-filt_clean.htm

You should check the fuel pressure or just replace the overflow valve.

Best price on OF valves by far here, most others will charge you double
