Stiff clutch pedal.... Normal... or not?????

I have a 1998 12V 2wd quad cab 3/4 ton and I prefer to drive my 1992 4wd truck (also a cummins) because the clutch pedal kills my ankle.
The previous owner said a new clutch was installed, but can a bad clutch slave or something cause the pedal to be stiffer than normal?
They made no mention of any HP clutch.
I am looking for the possibilities...
Thanks..
DD

The OEM clutch is a diaphram type with many small levers spreading the pressure over a larger area giving you a softer pedal.
The replacement clutch they installed is more than likely a lever type HD clutch that only has 3 levers counteracting stiffer springs which gives you a stiffer pedal.
You may be able to find a slave cylinder with a larger bore size making the pedal easier to push.

South bend clutch sells a HD hydraulics upgrade. less than $200 IIRC.

That's cheaper than the OEM replacement from the dealer...

I called south bend this morning ...just a bit over $300 and no better than a stock unit pressure wise.
I am going to have to tear it apart to find out what I have for a clutch...

is it getting worse or was it like that since you had it? i noticed when i put in a new clutch the pedal was alot easier to push in and slowly gets stiffer as it gets worn out. just my observation.

was not sure on the price. thats more than I though.

then whats the hydraulics upgrade than folks usually put in after upgrading to a heavy pound dual disk? I'm sure it came from SBC>

when I DD my '98.5 from the stock clutch. pedal pressure went waaay up. I never upgraded the hydraulics from stock though I understood the option was there.

It was always stiff.
The lady whom I purchased it from told me her late husband (80 yrs old) had a new clutch put in.
The truck only has 112,000 miles on it. That's all I know about it
