starting/stalling problems...battery???

few weeks ago, I pulled in got fuel, went to start the truck and it it kind of had a hiccup. Turned the key, engine turned over like normal but no fire. Tried for about 3 seconds, turned key off then turneed it again...fired right up. Didn't think much of it. Then it did again, probably about 5 starts later.

I don't drive this truck a whole lot. Maybe 4-5 times a week. After about 4 times of this I thought I'd check the battery cables. The passenger side battery was bulging and had leaked something all over the fender well. I unhooked the battery. This was last week. I haven't had time to get a new battery yet, but have cranked and driven the truck about 5 times. Today, I was going to get a new battery, I got in it to start it and I didn't think it was going to fire. Turned the key for about 3 seconds... nothing, tried again... nothing, 5th time it fired. It seemed to be turning over fine but wouldn't fire. Put off getting the battery until I find out more info. I might need a starter?

Also in the past month or so, about the same time period as the starting problems, I've noticed a stalling isuue. When I'm on the gas hard, like pulling out of a drive way, and then suddenly let off the gas and brake, the truck dies. Does it everytime, so far 3 times total.

Are these related? Is it the battery, starter, fuel pump...all three?

Thanks

hi
stalling could be too low idle speed ,you want app 800 with ac on .
you need to have 2 batterys that match replace them in pairs .
not starting issue may be nutral safty switch next time wiggle the shift lever some , or bad starter selinoied contacts <replaceable without replacing whole starter>
also look at fuel shut off relay and selonoid !

I had a starting problem similar to yours. It turns out it was the fuel shutoff solenoid relay. I had a hard time taking it apart but in the end I got it open and filed the contacts. No problems after that.

When I had this problem the truck ran great once it started. I don't know why your truck is stalling.

I found the problem this way: I cranked the truck and it didn't start. I left the key in the on position and popped the hood. I checked the shutoff solenoid to find it down. I pulled it up and the truck started.

Hope this helps,

Bob
