Star Wheel question

I moved my star wheel forward quite a bit, but not all the way. I can see that there is a spring or coiled wire behind it that I am thinking the star wheel put tension on before it was turned towards the front of the engine. The sprring seems to slide loosely behind the star wheel now. There is just a little bit of free-play, is this normal?

Thanks, Jeff

Re:Star Wheel question

I dont know if its normal but its the same way on my truck.
I turned my star wheel all the way forward... all the way to its stop.
(Had to bend an old screw driver into an "L" shape to get it to turn that far).
That coil spring behind the star wheel is very loose on my truck.
Id have to imagine, as the engine temp increases, the coil spring expands and reduces how loose it is.

Rich.
