Howdy, I need to know for sure if the speed sensor is in the rear diff. or the transfercase on my truck, 1997 3500 4X4, 5-speed DRW and YES, I tried a search, but I couln't find the answer.

Instead of searching here why not crawl under your truck and look?

I'm fairly certain it is in the rear differential, but either way it will be very easy to find. It will be the only thing on the differential that has electric going to it. Get on your back and shimmy under there, you'll find it!

 

Should be on the driver's side of the rear output shaft on the transfer case.

Yup! I checked it out and the speed sensor is indeed in the output shaft of the TC and the wires going to the rearend are for the anti-lock brakes.
