Crank sensor set too close causing sparks? Beyond that, unless the crank runout is absurd and the damper is hitting the timing cover, I'm at a loss...

sparks

think i found the answer on another board. the thing is mounted in rubber and the rubber is rubbing the gear cover causing static electricity to build in the outside ring. will check it out later and report.

It is either that or your fan belt can be slipping causing the same static charge.
