Source for radiators

The higher mileage of my two '96s was running hotter than usual (per the instrument panel gauge) this summer while pulling some loads. Usually was happening on some long uphills and mountain climbs. Needle was going up to and sometimes slightly beyond the 210 degree line. Never before has it gone up that high even with a load. The truck has 192,000 on the odometer and likely better than 210,000 because of oversize tires over the years.

I've periodically changed out the coolant (probably 3 - 4 times) and replaced the radiator hoses at least once. I'm on my second serpertine belt which seems in good shape.

Is there a source for a new radiator for these trucks that isn't Mopar? Anyone else replaced their radiator over the years? Any thoughts on whether a new radiator would let me run a little cooler under load?

One thing you might check before you buy is the area on the front of the radiator between it and everything in front of it. That area is notorious for getting loaded with junk and restricting the flow of air through the radiator. If a cooler running rebuild is an option, check with your local radiator shop and ask about an "I" core replacement core. I put one in an excavator and was amazed at the difference in cooling ability compared to stock. In the aftermarket world Radiators Inc. has always done me right. I know there is a store in Birmingham, AL where I am but I don't know if they have other locations although I would think they do.

Call me cheap but I have had great luck with my aluminum/plastic tank from pepboys. It was around $260 and I've seen it get over 190 once, and it was only for a few seconds. This is towing in mountains of New Hampshire in 95 degree heat with the a/c on. It usually hovers around 185 while doing all the above, 175 with no a/c or load.

I actually got a new fan clutch from them too, comes on much earlier then stock one. Anything above 180 and rpms below 1500rpm and kicks on till you get around 2k rpm or the temp drops. Kinda annoying to hear it but it REALLY helps keep temps down in traffic with the camper on the back. Good luck.
