some swapping (Kind of long)
some swapping (Kind of long)
Hey everyone. This is my first post, but I've been snooping around a while. Yall seem to know one or two things about diesels. Anyway, just to let yall know, I'm not new to the cummins. We've got 4 just between my dad and I have been driving them sence '92. There are more within the family as well. But, unfortunately, I don't really know much on the technical details about them, here's what I mean.
We've got a '92 that runs like a champ, the body and trans have seem many, many better days though. It's an Auto. We've run across a '95 with a good, straight body and strong trans (Auto), but the motor wen't sky diving without a shoot. Anywhere, here is what I don't know.
Is it doable to either, swap the good trans from the '95 into the '92 and keep on trucking? Or (better yet) can the '92 motor swap into the '95? This doesn't and won't be a beauty thing. This is a ranch worker in the truest since. We just aren't ready to put the ol'92 to rest yet. Any thoughts. Fire away.

I would put the engine from the 92 into the 95.
The 95 has a 47RH, not real sure just what all you would need to get O/D, though I am fairly sure it is not plug and play. Changing the engine should be almost plug and play, you would have to use the bellhousing adapter from the 95, and figure out how to route the fuel lines, otherwise they should be extremely close.

Either swap should be very doable. The biggest difference between the two motors is the injection pump but since you'll have both complete trucks, that should be no problem. If you decide to put the '95 tranny in the '92, do some looking in the 1st gen forum for info on controlling it. As I recall, it's not too hard. Good luck with your swap.
