it makes the turbo louder, you get more of a whistle out of it when its spooled. no HP/TQ gains just personal preferance..

east to remove and install took me about 10 min start to finish tools out and away my 1st time so if you dont like you can always re install as long as your dont mangle it getting it out.

Just make the turbo whine more. I didn't notice an increase in overall volume.

Ya its right there, ya cant miss it, just a silver colored kinda cone shaped ring in front of your compressor wheel held in by a snap ring. I just used a pair of needlenosed vise grips to pull mine out, the snap ring is a real pain in the butt, I ended up leaving it in there and pulling the silencer ring out without removing it, if you do it like that you will mangle it up like I did mine so be easy and take your time if you think you might put it back in. You really hear your turbo spool up more and it gives your truck that "hey look at me" sound but no performance gains, just a cool sound. Good luck and hope you like it

alright so i took the intake hose off today after i changed the oil. what i saw was the wall of the turbo and then it slants in at a 45 degree angle then right behind that is a circle piece that goes all the way around with a small notch taken out but no clip piece or anything. is that piece i saw the silencer rin? or do i have to take out the little fan in order to get to it?

No it's right there. Chrome colored gizmo. Held in with a large snap ring.

..took mine out last spring..and left the original factory air filter set up in it..you cannot tell any difference with the facatory air filter in it..BUT..when I had the air filter OUT and went around the block..Holy Moly..it sings and its loud!!!..so I guess most guys can hear it better with a BHAF vs the stock..try it once w/o the air filter..kinda fun..so I put the filter back together and left the ring out..

Might as well get the BHAF while you're at it...

The removal on the 3rd gens is the same exept its a little harder because the turbo is mounted lower along the engine. I used 2 small screwdrivers to get it out and also a mirror helped me see the gap in the snap ring since it was facing up.

Take it out if you want a loud turbo.

I took mine off and its super loud with my straight pipe exhaust and intake.
