What do you mean by dowl pins in the flywheel? There should be holes to bolt the pressure plate to but I don't remember any dowel pins in mine. Pete

ive had fly wheels with dowel pins in them, Mazda, Porsche among others. the holes in the pressure plate usually slide over the dowel pin that isin the fly wheel.

the dowel pins are used to keep the plate from riding on the edge of the bolts, they fit more snug that way the hardened pins are doing the job of keeing things still and the bolts are just holding things together without the plate putting side stress on them

I know what they are for, I was just curious to know if dodge omitted them from their fly wheels for some unknown reason. Any running without them?

Now that I have the tranny completely bolted in shouldI remove it and put dowel pins in it?

thank you

they don't have dowel pins that I know of, just did a clutch in a buddies truck the other day and don't remember any. Heres a pic of a flywheel from southbend, and I don't see anywhere they could go.

yeah I just pulled my stock clutch and all off to replace with a DD and I dont recall any dowl pins or for that matter holes in the crank for them. Now I could be wrong on the holes in the crank part ebcause I wasnt looking either. but i know there are no dowl pins on my flywheel.

No dowel pins on mine either. There are locating pins on the adapter plate for the bell housing. Lewis how is the project coming? Sorry I missed your call. Pete

as stated earlier, on every fly wheel I've ever seen, there were dowel pins to locate the pressure plate. You would think with all the torque these motors are capable of that there would be dowel pins on the fly wheel.

As for my swap, Ive got the tranny bolted in. I am trying to get the input shaft changed over but Dodge tells me that it costs $377. WOW! I'll look else where. The clutch master/slave was $300 plus as well. I think I'm going to try and shorten the shaft of the donor trucks assembly.

I removed the auto tranny cooling system as well. sure cleans things up in there. What did you do to cap the coolant lines when you unplugged the heat exchanger or did you leave your's in place?

I'm also working on installing the hydra boost unit that came from the donor truck.

Pete' ive got a few other questions as well. Please pm you phone # to me again.

thanks

You are right Lewis. They were a big help. Much cheaper than the Dealer. I'll PM you my number again. I took the air to tranny cooler out. The one in front of the radiator. The water to tranny fluid heat exchanger on the passenger side I plug with 2 NPT Pipe plugs. I just took the lines with the fittings on them to the local hardware store and got the right size plugs and plug them with that. Pete

I found the info I was looking for in the manual about dowl pins. There should be housing alignment pins that align the clutch housing to the engine block. but none for the flywheel, i'll upload a pic of it.
