Sad day for me...

Let me premiss this by saying I own a 1993 Cummins dually, and I love it. That being said, my company provides me with a company truck a 99 Power Stroke which is a turd, at least compared to my dually, even though the PS has a bully dog box.

The other day I went on a road trip with the boss in the 1999 Dodge diesel with a Quadzilla power box pulling a 24ft BP cargo trailer with mabey 3k in the box. The truck got 10mpg and struggle to do 70 mph, acceleration is crap, doesnt want to run over 2500 rpm, its a major turd! I asked if he'd let me have it for 2 weeks to get it right, he said its a pick-up not a race car, I told him it was only a pick up by design but pulled like a POS. Then I actually muttered I couldnt wait to get back to driving my Ford....

Theve had a new inj pump and lift pump installed not because of the lack of power but they died, I just felt bad I actually looked foreward to driving my PS....

Are the wastegates knowen to be out of adjustment to where they are bypassing the gasses prematurely?

A lot of the 99's only provided 16-17 psi. boost from the factory. The wastegate actuator can be adjusted to provide more, although it is staked. You can drill out the stake and shorten it up a couple turns, then restake it. Or you can shim the actuator where it bolts up. The ECM shuts off the fuel at 21 psi boost, so you get a few psi to play with.

I wonder if the Quadzilla power module would eliminate the computers 21 psi cutoff...?

Never tried that particular unit, but it probably does.

The Quadzilla box should have come with a brass replacement orfice that goes on front of the turbo. The orfice basically disables the wastegate from opening.

The reason the 99 killed an injector pump and lift pump is because it sounds like no one monitors the fuel pressure. The lift pumps are a junk design and die all the time. If the inj pump isn't getting fed by the lift pump, then it eventually burns itself up. You need to run a fuel pressure gauge or at least the low psi warning light from BD.
If the trucks is a turd while towing is usually because the lift pump is dead again so the inj pump is having to fend for itself. Also, have you ever pressure checked the intercooler for boost leaks? They all develop leaky boots if you keep up on them, and that kills your mileage also.

the truck should run like a raped ape.
