rough idle when cold

I am usually in the 3rd gen section so forgive me i dont know much about these 12 valves. A buddy is looking at a 98 12 valve, and the guy says the truck starts fine and runs fine when warmed up but idles rough when it is cold. Is there a simple fix for this? He just wants to know what he is getting into to fix it before negotiating.
