return line flow rate
return line flow rate
I am curious if anyone has an estimate of return line flow rate for a 1997 in Gallons per hour. I am interested in WVO experimentation and wondering what the return flow is to the tank.
is it like a trickle or a huge flow.
Thanks,
Mark

I have always used 90% as an estimate of the amount of fuel that returns to tank. This is not a number that is specific to the cummins but it might get you in the right order of magnitude if you figure out your gallon per hour burn and then multiply that by 10.
wow
Well, I was considering looping the return flow to a point just before the lift pump, and after a fuel tank selction valve I would install. This setup would maintain a higher fuel temperature, and eliminate the need for two return lines going to the tanks, but would not eliminate any air in the system, so I was thinking of using a "tiger loop" fuel oil De-Aerator in the loop. They are sold for fuel oil heating systems, and have been used in vehicle conversions in europe on cars, but it is only rated for 8 gallons per hour flow, 10 psi, and 105 degrees f. So, it may not be apropriate for a cummins.
Thanks guys!

17 gal/hr! That's a lot. I knew that it was more than a strong steady "****" but not that much.
Does the overflow valve spring regulate the psi?
Markm4: I have my return set up like you described and it works well. I have no air hassles and if I break the fuel line for any reason, it is never a issue to get the air out. The only drawback is that the purge times are a bit longer but no big deal.

Thanks for the info.
do you have a valve to let air out or divert the return to the tank if you change the filters.
More info on your conversion would be appreciated.
