Virtually everyone on here sticks with the company they like the best. All 5 of them have good produts, it boils down to who you are most comfortable with, and local installers.

"Mix and match" is the best way to create endless problems. The best rebuilt is "off the shelf" delivered whole from one of the respected shops. This will be dyno tested and adjusted for pressure and shift points. Next best thing would be a kit from the shop after discussing with them what your goals are, this way you get all the bits and pieces that are ENGINEERED TO PERFORM TOGETHER. Even so the installer needs to pay attention to the pressure and shifting setup.

I would probably mix-and-match as some companies offer exclusive products that you cant get elsewhere. I've seen several "fixes" for the fifth gear nut and there are several companies offering input shafts too I'd bet. The fifth gear fix with the fully splined press fit gear with the slots for keys has got to be the way to go. No possible way to back off. I'd also definitely upgrade to an 1 3/8" input and solve the trashed clutch disc problem. I know you can get a clutch from Southbend for this. This is just my 2 cents worth as I like to fix it right 1 time and be done with it.

I would either go with all parts from one company, or buy one of their tranny's. So id say order a master rebuild kit with heavy duty clutches and seals(and if it were me, id add some clutches), the same company's VB, and the same company's torque converter. just makes it MUCH easier if you have any problems to tell them that you have all of their parts.
