Question about melt down

First, before I ask my question I want to say thanks for all the help and advice I have gotten from this forum. I just finished installing my Boost and Pyro gauges and I love them. :-*

Now for my questions: I have read that we have a problem with melt down. It was said that aluminum melts at 1350 Dec F. What are the aluminum parts of our engine that are at risk?

I ask this question because I may have done some damage before I was smart enough to get gauges. After pushing her to hard, just once. I have a very noticeable ping coming from the engine. I wonder what I did. Any suggestions are Welcome.

Thanks,

Re:Question about melt down

Yes, but this ping is not the same sweet sounding diesel ping that diesel lover have grown to know and love. I have has this truck for 10 years, it has a "ping" that was not there before I kicked A#$^$% up Daniel canyon, pulling my boat, two week ago.

Re:Question about melt down

hvanflee,
You may want to speak to someone like Piers to see whether you have a problem. http://www.piersdiesel.com/
I noticed from your signature that you turned the pump up two full turns. One of the weakest links in the first gen trucks is the injection pump and the cost of a repair or replacement is not cheap. If you want very noticeable improvement in performance from your truck and at the same time protect the injection pump then you may want to consider a set of new injectors (Bosch or POD's) and have the pump set @ 1.4.
Sure hope you didn't cook something in the engine.
Cheers,
Al

Re:Question about melt down

2,500 for 2 minutes?!! Why would you do that to your truck? How much were the coffins for each piston? When are they being buried? :

Re:Question about melt down

Assembles a burial team and fires salutes over the dead pistons.

Top, could be that the 21 bang salute has already taken place for each of the pistons.

CP, sorry about the blow-by and possible damage.

Jerry

Re:Question about melt down

hvanflee --

It sounds to me as though you burned an injector. If an injector gets over heated, it can distort the needle valve or nozzle orifices, which can let fuel "drip" or have an otherwise unacceptable spray pattern.

If it pings at idle, then it should be easy to diagnose: crack each of the (high pressure) injector lines successively until the you find the line that makes the knock go away. Good excuse to buy a set of Power Wagon or Lucas injectors.
