Smile Is it possible to find a good trany guy ..?

Hi Guys I have been trying to find a good trany guy , My problem is narrowed down to the solinoid pack and trans temp sensor ... but I don't want to throw good money at bad .
I don't know the age of the trans ... when it's cold the trans will completely dis-engauge in forth gear ..2 miles from my house ...its done it at the same location 7 days in a row .
I let off the gas and it re-engauges ...it only dose it for a split second ...I get about a mile or so down the road to Dunken Donuts and leave it run ... she gets up to temp and its fine .
I took it to a guy who seems like a good trans guy ... to good I have been blow off by him because it's not a big money job .
He pulled trans sensor and a slip code , he ran the truck with the scanner on the truck and every thing seemed fine ... but that was after he left the truck sit in a warm , heated shop all night ... it did not do it .
How hard is it to change the solinoid pack and sensor ...?
Thanks guys
Greg

the solenoids aren't hard to change. I believe the OD and lockup are in the same pack, but they are on top of the valvebody. All you've got to do is pull the VB down enough to get to them, easy unplug & plug back in, and a few screws. It isn't too bad. I've done it on my mom's dakota which has the same design. However, mom's dakota would keep 4th gear until it warmed up. Changed the solenoids and it's good to go. Yours sounds like I would start with the temp sensor first, because these trannies don't shift into 4th or lockup when the fluid is below a certain temp. I want to say it's 55* but not positive. Do you get lockup when 4th gear drops out? If you don't, I would try the temp sensor first. If you do I'd go after the solenoid pack. Good Luck

I don't know on that one, I know on my 47RH the temp sensor is in the line. Maybe try tracing it in the schematics of a service manual.

Bah humbug

Shiat mines been doing that for 60,000 miles just let the thing warm up. My v8 Dakota did exact same thing and never had any trans problems with that either. Also I SOMETIMES get the kickout when I ever so lightly let off throttle then locks back up when I accel. at cold temps. Sometimes Ill just drop it out of od for few mile sthen rock on. Plus I pull all my loads with od on *always* and have never had a trans fail yet even with Dakota. Drive smart drive s-smart. Good luck.
