P-Pump oil question

I need a second option.

I accidentally removed the P-Pump access plug.

Oil drained out from it. I'm looking at the Dodge manaul (14-78) and it says "Diesel fuel and engine oil are used to cool the fuel injection pump."

But the picture on page (14-78) shows an "Oil Fill Plug" which is the hex bolt on the AFC housing.

So add oil? or Start engine and left it fill up?

This is normal... oil lubricates the bottom end of the pump. The oil will slowly drain back into the resivoir over time but will fill back up as soon as you start it. Start the engine and let it fill up. No worries. I doubt you accidentally removed it too, GSK install?

Depending how much came out, you might want to top up the oil level.

Oil starts draining out of the pump every time you turn the engine off and refills when you start it.
Don't worry about refilling it one bit, it will do it on it's own.

The pump is pressure fed from the oil gallery and drains back through the gear housing. It probably takes about 15 seconds to refill on start up from bone dry.

Unless you took the plug off with the right side of the truck 5 feet off the ground, not much came out.

Thanks guys. I ended up filling the p pump since the hex bolt is easy to access. I poured in about a cup since that how much appeared to drain out.

I now have exhaust brakes and 60 lbs springs on the exhaust side. I wished I bought a set for the intake so I don't have to go back in. Cyl 5 & 6, at least I know the trick when I have to do the intake side.

I should have clarified, I meant top up the engine. I think it is about a half litre that comes out when you pull the timing pin plug.
