NV4500 OPERATORS: Tranny Questions
Everything comes with the southbend clutch master cylinder upgrade, and it is already bled. The push rod on the master cylinder is adjustable in length. I do not know that this is the problem but it could be.
I just put in a remanufactured tranny and have some of the same issues. I find that if I put it in 4th before I put it in reverse, it will just slide right in. Same thing when I put it into 2ed. I have the Southbend Con OFE and my mechanic says that it is not completely disengaging. I find it hard to believe because I have to lift my foot a good 3" off the floor for me to feel it starting to engage when I take off. Still, could be the clutch.
Make sure you do not have a mat under the clutch and not letting it go far enough it does sound like the clutch is dragging you can fix it by dropping the trans and space the pivot ball 0.110 thous.
Dieseldemon,
I do have a mat under the clutch, a factory Dodge floormat. So I should have my mechanic check the clutch for complete disengagement and perhaps adjust the pushrod on the master cylinder (if possible)...I'll have that done as soon as possible...THanks fellas!

I am still having similar problems with my 4500. Not all the SB hydraulics are adjustable, the one for my 97 was not. The only things that I have not replaced are the bell housing and clutch fork(and pivot ball) we believe that the fork is bent or the pivot ball is worn out and doesn't allow full disengagment. Anyone else? Ideas? Am I wrong?
Are you sure yours isn't adjustable?
The way I adjusted mine was to remove a keeper on the shaft going from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder and then turn that shaft a couple turns and put it back on the clutch pedal pin, and replace the keeper. That is just going from memory. It wasn't overly obvious that it was adjustable but Peter at SB talked me through it.
