OK I just called Advance auto and the guy there told me that they have advance auto ATF+3 and Valvoline ATF+3 and he said that they are direct replacements for Castrol Syntorque. Anyone know if this is the truth.... Wanted to check authority here first

The chevy dealer has the same thing for GM trucks for $24 a quart as opposed to DC charging $34(locally for me). It is said Syntorque is a GL4 not 5. The added zinc in typical gear GL5 oils will eat up the carbon fiber syncro rings. Personally I wouldent chance anything but Syntorque.

I'll try the chevy and Dodge dealers and get the correct stuff.

I thought that the ATF+3 was auto trans fluid, bonehead at Advance must have told me wrong or misunderstood me.
Thanks,
Brian

The local autozone carried a fluid that is supposed to be compatible. It is a penzoil fluid with the chevy and GM part number right on the front of the bottle. Says it is good for a NV4500. That is what I used on mine. I cant remember what name it went by and I have been meaning to get back to check to see which syn it was. Going from memory it was $6-8 a quart. May be worth looking into.

I went by the Dodge dealer and got the NV4500 fluid. It listed for $22.90 a quart but sold it to me for $15.30 a quart. What a deal
It took 1 1/2 quarts to top my tranny off. Next time I'm in the Zone I'll check to see if they have what you found. Thanks.

Thats a steal compared to my local dealer. Dodge wanted something like $36 a quart. My local oil supply house has 16 gallon drums for $380. Be curious as to what penzoil has thats compatible. I will say there is still the factory sticker on my trans that says" use of any other fluid other than Castrol Syntorque will void all transmission warranty".

Pretty sure that it was pensoil. Comes in a yellow plastic container with black writting on it. Quart bottle is shaped like a gear lube container. Should be in the same section.

Well I got energetic enough to run to the parts store. It must have been penzoil syncromesh. I didnt see any listing on the side of the bottle about the NV4500 this time but it did have a bunch of part numbers on it. Anyone know if this is good for our trannies for sure?

The bottles I got this morning from Dodge says for use in all NV4500 transmissions, 75/85 synthetic GL-4. What did the pennzoil bottle say?
If you need part numbers I can get them from this Dodge fluid. Other Dodge dudes/dudettes reading may have them memorized.

I know that when I bought it that it listed the 4500 so I am not worried. Tranny shifts better and doesnt grind going into third like she used to either. Whatever it is the stuff has been working for 8 months. Synchromesh was the only penzoil they had on the shelf today so I am guessing that was it. A quick search of the penzoil site says it is the wrong part number though. Looks like it might be best to just avoid the pensoil unless you take the GM or mopar numbers to the store with ya.
