NUTZ just cant win lately

Looks like i gotta wait for another part.

Got my new south bend clutch installed lubed everything up new throw out bearing ect. im possitive i installed everything correctly. Go to start the truck up press the clutch in feels really soft fire teh truck up go to put it in gear, not happening. try again no go..... turn truck off put it in gear start it up with pecdal to the floor and holding the brake the clutch disengages just barely enough to hold it in place but not enough for full disengagement so i can hear it scuffing. let the pedal out and there is no holding the truck back with the brakes. Sounds like a hydraulic master slave assembly......NUTZ NUTZ NUTZ..... so now Dodge has the assembly back ordered looks like my 98 12v will sit still for another week

You should be able to get a Clutch Master an slave at your local parts house. When I did my clutch last year I got that stuff at bumper to bumper. It could just be some air in the line. When I did put mine all together I remember it took a while for it to have full presure (no bleader on the system so I had to wait for it to work it's way out. I have also heard that if you push thhe rod back into the slave it will help get the air out. Hope this helps, reall bummer when you are waiting on parts.

Napa said they had stuff listed for up to 97 then in 98 they only have the master listed but not a slave and after 98 they dont have anything. Anyways best i was told by all the parts houses around ehre is 98 and up is dealer only still. wonder why that is when it takes dodge so long to get stuff

I'll give that a try this weekend while i wait for the replacement but man there really is no disengagement of the clutch. sitting at a stoplight i have to hold the brakes hard and keep the pedal on the floor to get it to barely disengage and even then i cant take it out of gear or put it back into gear without shutting the truck off, now shifting while going down the street is a different story thats easy i can shift it without a cllutch no problem.

ive tried pumping the slave 10-20 times to force some air up with no luck, wish there was a way to bleed these things.

thanks

did you have to disconnect the slave for some reason? break the hydraulic system

Did you have the flywheel turned?

Yes flywheel was turned, first time it has been turned. No i didnt break the system but i did let the slave hang loose for two days with the rod in the relaxed position. might have been my folley

system worked prior to the install, only thing i could see is possably popping the pin out of the lower slave cylinder re-filling it with the hole at the highest point then re-attaching it to the system and forcing all of the fluid up out of the slave into the master? then slowly releasing the rod and filling the master as the fluid is sucked back into the system. i would think that the slave would hold enough fluid to potentially be successful at doing that. I dont think the master sucked dry. i didnt check it while doing the swap only after the problem arose the fluid level was 1/2 full. potentially it did suck dry with the rod in the fully relaxed position. if it did the air should be in the upper 1/2 of the system and since ive tried pumping the slave i would have thought that would have forced any air completely up and out.

maybe someone else knows of a bleeding process for these master/slaves that i should have done. i just have never run into this with a dodge clutch change before so its baffling me

I know some of the fords can be a PITA cause they don't have bleeders either, can you have someone push the peddle down and you look below to see if the slave rod is being pushed out at all. Maybe its possible something else it out of wack. I just don't really see how any air could have gotten into the system.

I wouldn't pump the pedel like you do the brakes, this will only make the situation worse. If you cna get someone to help you have them push the pedal down and thengo underneath and push the rod back into the slave. Hold the rod in and have them slowly release the pedal. This in another way to try and bring it back. Try it a couple of times and see what happens.

You can also get a system for the older(96-97) trucks all you have to do is take the rod that goes to the clutch pedal off your old system and put it in the new one. South bend also sells them about $150

Just bought a master and slave for a 1997 12v (NAPA $262.45)

Having troubles bleeding the system. Worked air out of the slave for 2 days, Clutch still dragging.

Throw out bearing is making racket now too. 211k (original stuff)

Clutch still holds firm but looking like I've got to go in and replace the T.O. bearing. So looking liek a new clutch, P plate, thro bearing, pilot bushing, and rear main seal.

Still mythed about the bleed proceedure.

there shouldn't be any bleeding necessary. Did the system come in one piece or two? And don't buy anymore of those from napa, they are about $100 less at SBC or EEP
