Noise from underneath - jingling - trans?

Yes, I know difficult to start to diagnose from this description.

Only in foward motion, sounds like Christmas bells jingling from underside.
Not too noticeable under load but more obvious when coasting (foot off throttle)

Very audible jingling, high pitch pinging...as in Christmas bells

Truck ride is normal, normal power, shifts normal, trans temps normal.

Any ideas?

Thanks all

Don't laugh, but you might want to tap the shell of your muffler.

I had it one time, sounds very much like what you describe, drove me nuts for about a week before I found it.

Not muffler...only straight pipe.
Thanks

Mine had a similar sound..turned out to be the "Mid-Exhaust Pipe" clamp was loose & had the exact sound you are describing ..check all clamps..(if you didn't find it already) Did you find it?

Did you locate the source of your jingling? I have that too..my entire front end is rebuilt, including the F 350 lock out hub conversion. I am changing my fuel supply and return lines right now with a LarryB kit, and wondered about the trans linkage...jingle sounds like it comes from right about there...I'm curious what you found!

Look across the full exhaust system.

I had a hangar bolt fall out and rang like a siren at idle.

It was ear splitting.

Check your driveshaft @ the carrier bearing. My 99 had the same issue, took me weeks to track down. There is a large washer at the end of the drive shaft tube where the stub goes into the carrier bearing. The spot welds had beoken and the washer was just riding the merry go round, tinking and clanking the whole way. Rather than disassembling the drive shaft and carrier, I just took some JB weld and duct tape to secure the washer to the drive shaft tube. I didnt have another problem with it for the next 2 yrs until I sold the truck.

Right at center carrier, on drive shaft, it's a metal shroud for water deflection. (Large washer)...it's loose on shaft.
That's the jingling.
I heard from another source that they usually tack weld it before installation directly for this purpose.

Thanks gents!

i crawled underneath, grabbed some 3/4" black tape and taped it to the end of the driveshaft. its quiet but probably won't hold for very long.
