No boost pressure

1996 truck. Yesterday when the son was driving it he heard a air sound like a big truck air breaks and then lost all boost pressure. Managed to nurse it home. Checked and the turbo is spinning but no boost (and no odd sounds) I'm thinking the place to look is the waste gate? Have a Banks actuator on it. I know all this is sort of vague but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cary

You blew a boot by the sounds of it. Inspect all the intercooler boot connections, you may find one completely off or have a good hole in it. The wastegate couldn't vent that much air even if it had a hole in it.

I agree with Lil Dog, The wastegate would reduce a lot of boost but it wouldn't keep up with the turbo completely. I would check all the rubber piping from the turbo over to the engine and possibly the intercooler core. Hopefully its just a hoseclamp that let go.

A good way to find a boost leak is to get a friend to rev the truck up and down to spool the turbo to a few psi, and then feel around the boots by hand and you will feel it blowing air.

Man you guys are good! Just wanted to say thanks. It was indeed a hose clamp to the intercooler.
