No Acceleration after 55MPH
No Acceleration after 55MPH
Guys this is one that I hope will be easy. That isn't my luck, but it's my hope.
Last night when I was driving home after my 2nd job I had a problem getting to 55 and then it wouldn't go any faster.
Symtom 1: The truck had sat all day outside in -5 to -10F.
Symtom 2: Fresh tank of #2 fuel w/ power service.
Symtom 3: When the truck would shift into 4th, around 45mph, the truck would start to shudder slightly and the exhaust would get a blue tinge to it. If I tryed to power through it there would be no accelleration, the shudder wold get a bit worse and the smoke could have killed bugs. If it wern't cold enough to freeze the ***** off a brass monkey.
Additional info: I had a hard time starting the truck just before I left for home. It had idled for about 15-20 min. before I statrted home.
I can't think of anything else that might help. If you guys need more info I'll give what I can.

Yeah, it is cold over here, too. But, it has been colder this winter.
Filter is good, I think you gelled. Anyway to get under and check the fuel heater? I think my harness burned out as it will not run in these chillier times.

My 97 runs lower compression and a TON of fuel and she will start when its -20*f out. She chugs and spits some smoke, but she will start.
I'm going with a clogged fuel filter because of a bad batch of fuel. He did say he just filled up.
OH yeah, I also run 18* of timing also.
Definitely gelling up. When you change the filter, dump some Power Service 911 in the filter housing. Then dump some in the fuel tank. When you get it started, it's going to run rough and smoke like crazy from the 911. By the way, Power Service in the white jug sucks. Better luck with Howes or winter blend fuel.

I run none of the stock fuel system anymore. That little fuel heater doesnt do anything. If hes gelled at the tank, then chances are the heater isnt going to help.

A burned out fuel heater is notorious for leaking. Air in the fuel system will also give the same symptoms described in the original post. That's the main reason I suggested to get under the truck and look.

Fuel cloud (gel) doesn't bother in the tank. It is trying to get through the cold fuel lines, pump & filters that the paraffin strings come together and start to block things.

When you stated the fuel harness burned up and you truck wasnt running perfect, it sounded like you were saying the fuel heater would save the day.
My bad, sorry.
This is one of the reasons I dont run the stock fuel system anymore. I got fed up with air leaks every other year.
