new southbend clutch shuddering???
Just installed this new clutch and it shudders or vibrates when i slip the clutch starting in 2nd. It feels like when an old flywheel gets out of round. I installed a brand new flywheel. I only have about 400 miles on it. Will it just go away after some miles? Anyone else run into this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'm no clutch expert but when my truck was brand new it did the same thing. I took it back to the dealer and was told it would smooth out and with some mileage it did.

It's the Con O clutch. I called the company i bought it from and they said to put some miles on it and call them if it dosen't get better and they will "take care of me." Which hopefully means that "I" won't have to yank it back out. Who knows. It locks up nice, but this shaking will kill a clutch over time.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I called and was told that I would have to use more throttle when starting. It helps. Time and break in will help too. The shuddering has improved, but it will still happens if I take off using too little throttle, especially on a hill. I was told that the clutch material was aggresive and has a tendency to grab, which it must do if it is to hold its rated horsepower.

Thats just the nature of the beast the more agressive the clutch the more it grabs and shudder. Most of these clutches are not ment to slip a lot on take off like the stock one. They like to grab and go. It will get better but may always do it a little. Just give it some gas ( diesel ) and come off the clutch a little faster. If you think that one grabs you should try the Con FE I have. It is smoother now but you just have to go not try to ride it out to long.

I had the same problem with mine so I called them and was told to put around 500 dailying driving mile on it then do a third gear boost launch and that would fix it. He told me it was how you break them in. I was not so sure about this so I had someone esle call in and describe the same problem in a pickup somewhat like mine and he told them the same things so i tried it. 7,000 later havent had a problem.
