New Owner
Purchased a 95 TD it has a fuel plate, gauges pyro and oil,k&d tourque converter and cat back exhaust. 98% of the time runs great but once in awhile it will not start when cold I am talking not real cold but cold like 6 degrees celcious .I can crank it over no problem the solenoid is lifting I can not push it any farther up when someone is cranking it for me. I do not smell any diesel out of the exhaust then all of a suddden it will crank over and start when ever I start it it will run low rpms I will bring it up to a 1000 and hold it for awhile then it will hold 650 ish if plugged in it will start and hold 650 ish when warm it will run like a dream and no problem starting Never owned a diesel before but I love the truck any suggestions it has 114500kms on it now ???
Re:New Owner
Sounds kinda like the idle is a little slow. Have you tried to push on the throttle just a slight amount when you try to start it? If I do that to mine it will start like it was warm. If that works you need to set up the idle a little.
Tom

DITTO Mr Tom
My 97 idles at 850-900RPMs cold. If I kick on E-brake it will drop to 650-675 but warms up quicker. Don't idle over 1-2mins. The fuel will wash down cylinders. I have to let run 1min. to build line pressure in Auto-Trans. Because of Mod trans fluid line. then I turn off e-brake after a couple of miles. Some say to turn key off after start light goes off, then turn on again. They claim the heaters get hotter? Daryl
Re:New Owner
Sounds like a low idle speed, but this problem could also be caused by a troublesome throttle linkage. The first thing I would do, see if the throttle linkage recall has been done. Any dealer can look up recall info with vin.
John
