Hey guys
got a woodward FSS for my 'new' 95 12v on ebay, & installed it & it won't work. Tried applying 12 volt to it from a battery on the 3 wire connector with no luck. So I install it on the truck (what a PAIN!!!) & it still doesn't work. I took the connector back off & tested the other end (on the truck) with a voltmeter. It has 12v going at the loom/connector. Once I plug the FSS connector back in & turn the key again, nothing. Is the FSS likely bad, or something different with these I don't know about- HELP!!! I want to be driving my new truck!

if it was bad, would I still have juice to the connector?

 

Did you check the pull circuit, or the hold circuit? The pull circuit only applies voltage when the starter is cranking, so its a two person job to check that one. The hold circuit is on when the key is on. Turn the key on and lift the solenoid up by hand. If it stays, then you have a problem on your pull circuit. Could be the relay, but more likely the blue fusible link from the battery to the relay. Check those before buying a new solenoid.

On the connector, the Black/Tan is your ground, the Red (I think its a purple tracer on it) is your pull circuit, and the Green/Black is your hold circuit. Pretty sure those are the colours, the wiring schematic is on my other computer.
