Well, I went and took a look last night...I have to say, this bad boy looks like it just rolled off the show room floor (well, almost). Body is in great shape, interior is immaculate, and the motor looks and sounds like new. Besides the passenger side ball joints and passenger door hinge pins, I couldn't find a thing wrong with it.

The only thing that still really concerns me is the odometer. It broke when the guy before owned it, so no one knows the exact mileage. The current owner is guessing that it's somewhere over 400k kms. Should this be a big deal? The truck has been repainted in the last year, and the tranny rebuilt 1.5 years ago.

Should I be concerned about compression or excessive turbo wear? I'm trying to figure out if there could be any hidden surprises that I'm overlooking...

Thanks again for all the help! Hopefully I'll be nabbing this 12v

If the truck has been maintained the odometer wudnt even be a thot in my mind. these engines are next to bullet proof if they have been propperly maintained. From what you described its a good buy.

There's always things to be concerned about, it is the nature of the used vehicle.

That being said though, I have seen plenty of low mileage glossed over pigs waiting to be purchased.

If it has not been abused, at 400,000 KM the crosshatching on the cylinder walls might be still there............ Literally, run right, you can't wear these things out.

I believe you said 6K?

New paint, reasonably new trans, what are you really paying for the rest of the truck?

True enough. Axles are worth $1500 for both, motor would probably go for $1800 (or more?), tranny rebuilds cost about $2000, new paint would be $2000. Worst case scenario I could always part it out

I went for another spin in it today, and noticed a hiccup in first gear at about 1500rpm. Would this be a valve body problem? I don't know transmissions very well...

I also noticed some blow by forming at the end of the tube after the drive at idle. Is a little bit normal over a minute or so? I covered almost all of the end of the tube with the tip of my thumb and there wasn't even enough to form a drop.

The truck is going into the shop tomorrow to have the OD solenoid replaced so I'll call the shop and ask them about the hiccup. Apart from that it looks like I may be the proud new owner of a 12v

So...the owner just rebuilt the transmission. Apparently there was something to do with an overdrive clutch melting and falling apart and damaging the torque converter and valve body. Its been in the shop since December 20th...

I'm hoping to pick it up on Saturday

Good deal. Throw a shift kit in it! Clutch material is horrible in any trans, particularly these ones. Higher holding pressures will help prevent that. Congrats again!
