Need More Tranny Help

I have scoured these forums looking for everything I can find out about my 96 tranny problems and I've learned a lot. Obviously I havn't learned enough, I still have problems.

A few months ago I was having shifting problems and read about cleaning the TPS. I did that and it worked great. Then a couple of weeks ago it started downshifting with the slightest pressure on the peddle and finally became undrivable. I put a new TPS on it, had to slot the holes to get it adjusted right, it is much better but still shifting funky. It will hang in second, sometimes I have to accelerate to 2800 rpms and back off to get it to shift. The shift to third and overdrive is usually fine. Is is still very sensative to downshifting at any speed or gear, the slightest pressure and it will often try to downshift two gears which is like hitting the brakes.

The only way to get the truck drivable again was to to actually bend the bracket that mounts the tv cable on the tranny so that I can get a lot of extra play in it. Because the problems happen in all gears I'm really confused where to look. Also the converter has actually only locked up maybe three or four times in the two years I've had the truck, but that hasn't worried me too much.

Tranny was rebuilt two years ago and there is nobody in this town I would trust taking this truck to. The people on this forum seem to be far more knowledgable than anyone I have talked to here.

I'm no expert, but try these things. Make sure all linkage works and is adjusted properly. Check TV cable. (cable from tps to trans) make sure its connected and not damaged. Last thing would be governor pressure sensor.
Good luck.

Call Dave @ Goerend Bros tell him what you've got what you've tried and listen to, and follow what he tells you. He has fixed more Bombed Dodge transmission problem than anyone, and he is one he** of a good guy. When I had trouble with one of my Dodge's (running his trans & tc) that is in hot shot service and called him for advice on what to check for I not only got good advice he went ahead and built a spare trans, before I had a chance to check the thngs that he asked me to check. (turned out I had a defective speed sensor.)

How do I check governor pressure?

Yesterday I cut the slots in the TPS even further and bent the bracket on the tranny for the tv cable to provide even more slack. Drove the truck about 70 miles and it shifted great, though still no lockup. Tonight on the way to work it hung in second, then third, then shifted in and out of overdrive, then finally settled down. On the way home it shifted just fine.

At this I feel like it must be internal, because of the way I have erratic shifting in all gears except first to second. Maybe the governor?

Also there is a hard linkage that goes from the pump towards the back of the engine. I can't tell what it connects to at the back because of the brake booster and proportioning valve in the way and I have a broken back and can't twist around too much. I know that is adjustable, is that length important?
