Need help choosing a new truck

As some of you know, My friend sold me my 12V after I lost my dirtymax in 2009 (sold it when things started to go south and protected my credit) and now im keeping my single cab 12v for a huntin truck and am in the market for a new family rig that can pull our new 20K LB octane toy hauler, man oh man are new rigs pricy! who on earth can affored one at 60K!? that Said, even extra cab 12V's are now pricy as I have seen new interior 98's going for 17K. I was there when my friend paid $21K for his 2002 24 valve x cab new and they are still in the high teens used 15 some years later! What gives? Seems like the best deals are the smaller crew cab 3rd gen's with the 48RE trans years 2003-2007 are going for 10-15K. Any pointers on a newer crew cab choice?

I would think you would get a better response up on the 3rd gen board.

I agree, if I were looking for a newer one, or even one with 4 doors, I would look to 04.5-07 with a 5.9.

First and second gen prices are nuts.

figured id post here for more of a un-biased view and most of us all share the same feelings on new modern trucks, question whats the differences to look for between the 03 and 04.5?

Best I can tell it is engine management differences.

I'm not a space shuttle guy though.

03 early version had a different auto trans.47re I believe. Later version had a 48re trans. Also no Cat. on it either, least mine didn't come with one. 2003 model 305 hp & 555 Torque, Fuel Mileage may be a little better than the higher horsepower ones but I don't know. Seats are pretty comfortable. Mine came with the deluxe version Infinity radio CD and cassette tape deck lol speakers are not bad for stock. Mine came with manual shift transfer case. But I still like my 12 valve trucks. Which I have basically Mothballed my 03 it has less than 100,000 miles on it still.

I'd go for a 1998 12 valve turned up a bit even if you have to pay more then buying a third gen. I like my $3,000 22 mpg 95 as much as I liked my $40,000 18 mpg 2007. Not as nice as of a truck for sure but way less maintenance and to go wrong.

yeah, problem is 2nd gen 12 valve x cab's are going for crazy money- I have a standard cab 12v that im keeping, just need a crew cab. Found a big horn 2007 crew cab long bed with the 5.9 in it with 145k miles but they want $31,000 bucks
