most popular tire sizes for 2500

Hi' I am going to put new rims and tires on my truck. I can't use 16'' alu. wheels cause my rear drums are too big. So I am going to bigger rims and tires. What do you guys find are the most popular sizes in both tires and rims. 17 or 18? I am going with Michelin tires, so what size have you been buying?
Truck has 353 gears with an auto trans. 95% of my miles are highway hauling a tandem trailer with 6 race bikes across the US, and don't go off road ever. I run at 70-80 mph most of the time so need the better wheels .
Thanks Doug

i have 305/70 16s on mine. i like them just fine. they came with the truck. the previous 2 owners each towed with them (the guy i bought it from had it for a few months towing his mustang, then sold the car...no need for a tow vehicle).

265s or 285s. Depends what your doing with them. If your towing heavy 265s have a better weight rating.

I like the 285s, they fill the wheel well up a little better.

265's ,285's or 305's on 16's are probably the most common tire sizes for dodge ram 2500, i personally have 285 bfgoodrich allterrain ko's and love the tires.

When I get new tires (pretty soon!) I'd LIKE 285 to replace my 265. A few less RPM at 65 has got to be worth a couple tenths of MPG.

Don't know if it'll happen however...

I really like my Terra Grapplers for everyday driving. 295/70/17s look nice. I don't tow with them. They are "D" load range, so they would be alright for light stuff.

depends on what wheels/offset and if your suspension is stock or not.

Skinnier tires may look silly, but if I were doing all highway towing miles then I'd try to find the absolute skinniest and tallest tire I could find. Frankly, the stock tire size (and maybe 285/35) is the best for mpg. What is the stock size for 17" rims?

I found a set of 17s that came off a 05, if the guy I bought them from is correct. They are 265/70. They were only about 1/2 inch shorter that my previous set of 285/75/R16 that were getting way too close to bald. One thing I like is these 17's look more balanced as far as the wheel to rubber ratio. Still fills the wheel well nicely.
