Id guess i have close to 100k on mine. Was replaced before i bought the truck, but it wasnt because of wear. The guy hit a garbage truck, and had it towed...Well the dummy's left the t-case in 2hi, and the tranny in neutral, and it doesent pump fluid that way and they burnt it up. Doing great right now. People talk bad about these trannies, but mine has proven itself pretty well to me. I haul plenty in the summer, and have no problems with it.

I went 212k on mine before replacing with a Suncoast.
It was more that I had money at the time rather than it needed replacing, it probably would have kept on going. Old TC was heat induced blue though.

How long a AT goes is sort of nebulous depending on if the miles are highway or city. If you only drove highway miles a stock AT might even make it 500k.

147K before it gave up the goat....mostly due to bombing in earlier days. I was second owner of her and know the original owner. It was small town driven and plowed snow for all of those 147K too.....

Long mileage autos- my my my.

Reading some of the posts telling ya to "plan on a new one" every time a newby comes onto the site and says the truck they just bought has an auto you'd think these transmissions were made out of cardboard and Elmers glue.

I got 138,000 on mine which as I can see is nothing. When I dropped the pan @ 136,000 (never been off) there was less than a tablespoon of anything on the magnet.
Spent two years under a 5th wheel off and on. Then City and highway, loaded with sheetrock much of the time...

I dont know if you have considered it or not, but If you have the $, I would DEFINATLEY not go with a factory stock auto again. They are decent with stock power, but at least put a good converter/VB in. It will make it a whole different truck.

Im with You on this one Big Jimmy. The stock auto's arent the most efficient at putting power down, but they are pretty reliable in most cases as long as you dont abuse them. Change the fluid/filter fairly regularly, and they should last a while. Im really happy with mine. Shifts great, and puts the power down. Has around 100k miles on it anyway. Not sure exactly. I haul plenty with my truck in the summer, even when the tranny was stock, and I only had the fuel plate. Never gave me any problem's. Just couldnt get into it to hard once the converter locked. My uncle has a 97 that gets daily driven, and hauls plenty. He has 140k + on his stock auto. Im tired of hearing everyone say how junky they are. As long as you do a little maintenance, and dont abuse them to bad or try and run 500hp through a stock one, you shouldnt have problems.

I've been reading these forums on the trans. for a long time and after 256,000 miles all I can say is thank you Mopar. I just can't put any logic in spending over $4000 or more for a aftemarket trans. I am getting a rebuilt one from Chrysler with a 3 year 36000 mile warranty with converter for about $2K. I will be doing this at my buddies shop. I get 18-20 mpg driving to work weekly and I tow my race car trailer to the drag strip during the summer and get 12-13 mpg driving local roads. Towing on highway I get 15mpg. This all with a stock truck with a K&N air filter. When my daughter graduates College in 3 years, I wil get a new truck then. I will probably put another 100K miles on it by then and the truck owes me nothing. I've owned it since new and its been good to me.

281,000 miles as of today on my stock tranny, thats with some slight modds, and a lock up switch. when took my truck to the dyno it hit like 240 hp with 450 lbs of torq but i could only do 2 runs cause it was slipping real bad. so when i get a new one i'd be curious to see how much power i was loosing through my tranny. If your truck's stock i would say keep the stock one. Mines been good to me and I tow and beat on mine, but my next one will be from dave due to some hp goals im looking at.

My '96 has 135,000 on it and shifting fine. But I am getting ready to do some modding and want to beef mine up. I also look for the tranny mods to help my MPG i hope. my truck with 4:11 axels is only getting about 15 MPG. I also feel the tranny is not getting the power on the ground as good as it once was. But then again, I'm not as good as I once was either !
