Miles on stock transmission
Miles on stock transmission
Well got a new torque converter in my 94 Dodge 2 wheel dr. truck. 500,000k and thought with stock trans. it would need a complete rebuild. Truck has towed tandem 14' trailer most of it's life. I bought the truck with 220k and in 3 yrs. it had 498k. Truck sat for 2 yrs. while I was sick. On the road again and at 500k was when torque converter went south. Well when went to pick up truck from trans. shop after repair, the guy said if he didn't know me all my life he would'nt believe me about 500k on stock trans. The thing was in really good shape yet. Had to replace front plennim and drive, but all the clutches, steels and complete overdrive unit where MINT shape. He knows I had always had it serviced by his shop and took good care of my truck. Now it is has the best of the best put back in and on the road again for another 500k. So how about other guys that have looked after their trucks. How many miles on your stock trans? Doug
285k on mine - never had any problems with it internally, but had a cooling line leak once and replaced a dipstick tube seal - I doubt if I've even changed the fluid/filter at the recommended intervals. My tranny has had an easy life though, with only pulling my boat or an occasional slide in camper it's whole life.
