Angry Make It SHUT UP!

About three weeks ago I noticed that the serpentine belt on my truck was badly damaged. Guessing that a bad tensioner had ruined the belt I checked it. Being the stock tensioner (140K miles) it had some play in it but not a whole lot.

So I replaced the belt and tensioner with NAPA replacements. The truck was great for the past two-three weeks but now it as started squeeking/squeeling. It does this anytime the truck is running. It doesn't look like the belt is slipping over any of the pulleys but the squeek is driving me insane!

Did I get a bad tensioner or did I install something wrong? I just want the truck to quiet back down. I'm about ready to put the original tensioner back on!!!

Check your pulley alignment and buy a new belt...if its squeeling, your chewing the new one. BTW, get yourself a GatorBack belt from Goodyear, its worth the extra few dollars, trust me.

On mine the alternator was loose and hanging at just enough of an angle to make the belt ride against the tensioner. I replaced the belt, tensioner and fixed the alternator and that was the end of the noise.

AC compressor going bad? Are you running an AC or nonAC belt? Is the squeeling when the truck's running or when shutting off?
