Made my dog happy today
Made my dog happy today
Just got done gutting my cat, what alot of fun that was. The whole time the dog was laying in the garage saying "go on give it another whack!" He was smilin ear to ear, it was a tough fight but the cat lost.
It was difficult to get the cat off in the first place, after removing the clamps, alot of penetrating oil, heat and twisting and rocking, it finally came off. Then there was round two, getting that ceramic junk out of there. Yes it was plugged up pretty good. Could bareley see any light through it. I used a hand sledge, and whatever I could ind to stick in there and beat the snot out of it. Rebar, 3/4 inch black pipe, fence post, etc. Once you get it busted through to the other side, it's not to tough to break it up into peices. Very messy, soot from hands to shoulders.
Went back together smoothly, took it for a run, more top end power, but a little louder also. Can hear the turbo more now or is this my imagination. Definetly stronger, can't wait to see how it will tow now. Looking forward to checking my mileage as well.
BTW, the reason for doing this? While empty the truck ran great, when pulling my 6000lb 5'er, it was a little doggy on the hills. Nothing really that bad, but I could tell it wasn't right either. I did all the fuel lines, filters, fuel pressure check, overflow valve, etc. Still have a little miss at 900 to 1200 rpms. On my 2nd bottle of injection cleaner. Idle is a tad low, I think I'll take care of that tonight. Kevin D.

Since other people have brought it up, I might as well comment. Yes brake dust can be hazardous to your health, I'm sure the stuff in a cat converter is also, so is cigarettes, and so is booze, the list goes on and on.

The people who die from asbestos exposure are not the people who changed their own brakes once in awhile, they were the people who manufactured the brakes/clutches every day for a long period of time.

The person who has a drink once in a while will not die from liver disease. The person who smokes a cigarette once in awhile will probably not die from lung cancer.

So, while I agree this stuff is not good, and precautions should be taken, how come no one is jumping on the average smoe who decides to spray paint his car, motorcycle or lawn furniture? Have you read the label on a paint can? Is this more acceptable than a cat converter?

So, wear a mask, do it outside, keep the kids away, or don't do it all. It's up to you and you only. Don't pass judgement. To each his own and his own only. Heed the warning just like a paint can, and leave the issue alone. Kevin D.

kd460,
Iwas not trying to belittle you for gutting your"cat". Unlike a pack of smokes or a can of spray paint there is no warning label on some of these devices. I was merely just stating a fact if not for your well being then maybe another readers. Sorry if I offended you.
Matt

Actually, no offense taken. I agree! Warnings should be made!
I think a warning should go along with every suggestion of "gut the cat". I know I will pass that warning on every time I suggest to "gut the cat". It was an excellent point. And good advice. But I had to raise my point as well.

I actually read another post on a similiar topic that I found to be a little negative and could even be considered "strong" (not directed to me-just a general statement). The kind of comment that if I heard from someone while in person, I would say something like "dude, relax, what's your problem? Somebody steal your pop tarts today?"

The cat is a known problem, it does affect performance and mileage. I am sure my egt's are down, but do not have a gauge to prove it. It made a big difference "gutting the cat" on my vehicle. I am happy it is done. It solved a power and performance problem I was having, and yes it was plugged. I think if someone is having trouble with it, then remove it or gut it, just be aware.

Now, sorry if I came across to strong, that was not my intent. Just trying to put the point in context. If anything good comes out of this than it is the point of mentioning the health hazards every time someone suggests to "gut the cat". I think the person mentioning the suggestion should feel obligated to do so. Your right, most people are not aware.
Thanks, Kevin
So Einstein.........where did you wash the dust to? Down the street so kids could play in the water? Did you throw it in the trash so it goes in the enviorment...sounds like you just don't care! If you did it in a closed up room and ate the dust, thats fine...but you subjected your neighbors to it. Yes, smoking is fine...they want to suck on that...enjoy but do not put me at risk, give me a choice do not make it for me.
We do not own this place we just borrow it from future generations! It is iresponsible people like you that make our government have to punish the good people! You are no different from the morons who drive their untuned pieces of junk that make our eyes water at the stop light.
If your feelings are hurt, sobeit....someone had to tell you! You just seem so short sighted.
Your serve!
Michael
EDIT Why gut it, you can remove it and put a pipe in...its easier and healthier!

sixtogo,
You are entitled to voice your opinion like any other member on this board. But, when personal insults are added to the discussion, it not only ruins the thread but also makes the individual posting the insults look unprofessional.
Gary,
Do not base one members unprofessional opinion as what this board is. I think you and I both know this board is getting better and better each day.

sixtogo, sorry but I personally object to the tone of your post. If you have an issue with a member of this forum then take it up with them via PM or even the moderators. Sure, we will never all agree on everything but darn it all, can't we agree to disagree agreeably???? Post's such as your are not necessary nor desired on a fine forum such as this.
Sorry if you are now offended. If you are, then do not post an angry reply. PM me instead. I may or may not reply as I am not looking for a fight.

Thanks Monte, and Mexstan - I sincerely hope so - it sorta disappoints me to see this sort of stuff crop up here unchallenged - it's easy enough to point out the individual perceptions of what is objectional on any given issue - and suggest alternative viewpoints on that ISSUE, without stooping to personal slap-in-the-face tactics...
As a group, we're FAR better folks than that!
;D ;D

While my opinion is undoubtly strong...this is a health issue! If someones feelings are hurt they may lack the self confidance to get by in this world.

Staying focused...I believe my point was and remains on the subject matter of the thread. In review of my prior post, perhaps "Einstein" may have been uncalled for. I apoligize. I find no other offensive statement in the post. I found this threads author to be uncaring...nobody addressed that.

Besides why not simply remove a CC rather than poison the world with Cadmium, (a heavy metal known to cause cancer). Would you want your neighbor to poison you and your loved ones? I did not think so.

Michael
